Financial Incentives Advance Walmart’s Beef Processing Facility in Kansas

The Olathe, KS city council approved a $257-million financial incentive package to support Walmart’s first wholly owned beef processing plant, enabling the company to advance its case-ready beef operation, Meatingplace reported.

The industrial revenue bond program and a 10-year property tax abatement will help drive production of sub-primal cuts into retail-ready beef products for Midwest stores. The 320,000-square-foot plant, which opened in July, has already hired more than 150 employees and is expected to grow to about 600. Walmart sources its Angus beef from Sustainable Beef LLC in North Platte, NE, which began slaughter operations in May.
